We are currently consulting on the content of the new Local Validation Checklist. Find out more and have your say.
Depending on the type of application, you’ll need to provide different documents to make the application valid. If these documents are not submitted we will not be able to consider your application.
Validation checklists will vary depending on whether the application is for Cambridge City, or South Cambridgeshire. The checklists for each council can be found below.
We check each application against a list of required documents (known as the ‘local list’) and will ask you to provide any documents that are missing.
If we do not get all the information we need, or fees, we write to you (or your agent, if you’re using one) to tell you that your application is invalid. You then have 14 days to give us the information we don’t have which will allow us to validate the application.
All applications are currently being validated within 5 days.
New applications, once validated, are normally uploaded to our online planning register within 5 working days.
For details of what you need to submit, select the type of application you want from the menu below.

Local Validation Checklist consultation
Greater Cambridge Shared Planning has prepared a new Local Validation Checklist, providing a single checklist for both Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire District Councils Council areas. The checklist provides guidance on what supporting documents must be submitted with a planning application; some are always required, others will depend on the type of application and development proposed. For your application to be made valid, you must provide all the required information or if the correct documents are not provided, your application is unlikely to be validated.
We are running a 6-week consultation seeking views on the content of the new Local Validation Checklist. Any comments can be made through the Council’s engagement platform. Have your say before Tuesday 28 July 2026.
