Conduit Head Road and Howes Place Conservation Area Appraisals
Greater Cambridge Shared Planning is consulting on 2 draft Conservation Area Appraisals for Conduit Head Road and Howes Place.
The consultations are open for comments from the public and other interested groups from Thursday 19 October to 14 November 2023.
The draft appraisals and links to the online surveys for public comment and feedback are available on the Conservation Area Appraisal Consultations webpage. There is no statutory requirement to consult with local communities or stakeholders, but we consider it important to hear a range of views on the draft appraisals before they are finalised.
Conservation Areas are areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. They have Conservation Area Appraisals which give recommendations for their conservation and enhancement, and we periodically review these to ensure they continue to reflect circumstances on the ground.
Howes Place was put forward as a potential new conservation area in 2010. That was not taken forward, but we are now re-consulting on the area. The boundary of Conduit Head Road has been found to adequately reflect the area worthy of preservation or enhancement and no additions or deletions are proposed at this time. Comments on the boundary changes are welcomed through the survey.
"Cllr Katie Thornburrow, Executive Councillor for Planning Policy and Open Spaces at Cambridge City Council, said,
'It is refreshing to see that our Historic Environment Team is pressing on with the second phase of the rejuvenated Conservation Area Appraisals programme. In a city like Cambridge with a unique heritage, these Appraisals are even more important. We look forward to seeing the next phase of Appraisals."
