Comment on the updated Conservation Area Appraisals for Whittlesford and Conduit Head Road

Please comment on our updated Conservation Area Appraisals

The Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service is consulting on a draft Conservation Area Appraisal from Wednesday 6 September to Wednesday 6 October 2023 and welcomes comments from the public and other interested groups.

Conservation Areas are areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. They have Conservation Area Appraisals which give recommendations for their conservation and enhancement, and we periodically review these to ensure they continue to reflect circumstances on the ground.

We have published draft Appraisals for informal consultation, covering the Whittlesford Conservation Area.

The draft appraisal links to the online surveys for public comment and feedback are available on the Conservation Area Appraisal Consultations webpage. There is no statutory requirement to consult with local communities or stakeholders, but we consider it important to hear a range of views on the draft appraisals before they are finalised.

The boundaries of the conservation areas have been reviewed and changes to the Whittlesford boundary are proposed. The boundary of Conduit Head Road has been found to adequately reflect the area worthy of preservation or enhancement and no additions or deletions are proposed at this time. Comments on the boundary changes are welcomed through the survey.

Cllr Dr. Tumi Hawkins, Lead Cabinet Member for Planning at South Cambridgeshire District Council, said:

“It’s really important that people who know these areas well are able to share their knowledge with us through this type of consultation, to help ensure we have the right local features recognised within our Conservation Areas. Whether you’re a property owner or a local resident, please take a few minutes to complete the short survey to let us know about special architectural and historic sites that you know and love.”
