Work starts on Inholm, Northstowe's award winning neighbourhood
Inholm, the next part of Northstowe new town to be developed, has won a Housing Design Award 2020 – testament to the collaborative working between developer Urban Splash, architects Proctor and Matthews and Shedkm, and our planning officers at the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service.
Inholm takes its name from the Danish word meaning ‘islands in the marshes’ – following the discovery of archaeology at the site dating back to the early fenland settlers. The new neighbourhood will provide a mixed inter-generational community with different types of housing available; homes for sale, family houses, first time buyer homes, affordable rented apartments, and affordable later living accommodation.
Urban Splash and their design team have designed Inholm to build a real sense of community, with public open space at its heart. Work has now started on site, and is using modern methods of construction for the 406 new homes, including the ability for buyers to configure the internal layouts to create their own space before being precision-built in the company’s factory, fitted with bathrooms and kitchens and delivered and assembled in just a few days. The project is a partnership with Homes England, the UK government’s housing accelerator, who own the site.
